Toronto's housing stock is a century old across most of the old city, and that changes what comes out of it. In Brampton we load patio sets and aluminum siding. The City of Toronto will take some metal on your regular collection day, and for one old bike frame that's genuinely the easiest option. Use it. We're not going to pretend otherwise.
Where it stops working is volume and location. City collection caps how much you can put out, runs only on your scheduled day, requires appliances with refrigerant to be handled separately, and will not enter your property — everything has to be at the curb, which is the whole problem when the item weighs 300 lbs and lives in a basement.
